I read this as "New York is for amateurs" and I was about to get all "oh no she di'n't" on you but this statement, read correctly, is generally true.

There are some exceptions, though, such as the Blood and Thunder parties in New York - full on professional olympiad shit. I got there at 9:30PM on NYE and left at 8PM NYD.
